Use of Hoatu

We have already looked at homai, which is give me. If we want something given to someone else, we use hoatu with the following structure.

Give the cup to Mere = Hoatu te ipu ki a Mere

It is important to write the "ki a" as two separate words, for writing it as one word changes the meaning of the sentence. The "ki" means "to" and the "a" goes before a name, but we will work with these in depth a bit later on.
